  • Owner & Esthetician

1996 was the year I decided to enter the beauty industry and enrolled in aesthetic school.  I have never looked back other than to reflect on how far I have traveled in my professional journey.  I have had the privilege to work in skincare salons and spa’s in Massachusetts and help them rebuild their aesthetic departments.  Teaching was one of my strengths and passions and that has always been a mission with those I worked with and mentored.  I have had the privilege of birthing two businesses from the ground up and see one of them thrive through a new owner.  Where I land today is this little gem of a beauty bodega that has great meaning to me as my grandmother all the way from Santander, Spain owned a neighborhood Bodega in the Bronx, NY, aside from being a private traveling nurse.  My desire was to own a bodega/atelier of my own.  Joy skin atelier was born in 1997 out of necessity to find my “joy” again in the green beauty space of skincare.  I started off as a lone aesthetician and now have a force of 6 women working alongside me who equally share my passion for people, beauty, sustainability and intuitive work.

My, treatments are crafted with each visitor in mind, as I considers where the person is, in real time. my work is intuitive, spontaneous and wonderfully creative. “I honor my guests' time, their hard work, their space, where they are at the moment and impart my knowledge, my hands and my heart … so they can leave with a bit of peace, clarity, feeling balanced and beautiful in their space.”

When I am not working, I am spending time with my family and friends, who are my everything.  I love to sleep, walk, read and go to dinner with my son.  The ocean is my happy place and when I no longer am doing skin (one day), you can find me there.

  • Esthetician

Jennifer has a passion for helping people on their health and wellness journey.  Nutrition has always played an important role in Jennifer’s life. In 2016 she graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Throughout her time as a Holistic Health Coach she developed a deep understanding and belief that healthy skin is a reflection of inner health.  Battling skin conditions of her own that she controls through diet and lifestyle she was drawn to study skin health.  After completing the master esthetician course at Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics Jennifer brings her holistic approach to skin care.

Jennifer quickly discovered the incredible effect touch has on the skin and had a strong desire to expand her knowledge on the lymphatic system and how it relates to facial massage.  Holding certifications on Reconstructive Face Lifting Massage and Lymphatic Drainage Massage Jennifer loves seeing the transformation that occurs with the skin after incorporating buccal massage and gua sha along with the magic we hold with our hands.

In the treatment room I hold space for each and every one of my clients. I listen to their needs and combine that by connecting clear presence with practiced skill. I believe touch and positive energy holds so much power and has many healing benefits for the body.

Jennifer has been an advocate of aromatherapy incorporating essential oils in her daily lifestyle as well as her skin care routine for nearly a decade.  She also holds a certification as a Level 2 Reiki Practitioner.

Outside of skin her passions are cooking, eating good food, spending time with family, playing with her grandchildren, lifting weights or enjoying a hot yoga class. Her dream is to publish a cookbook one day.

  • Massage Therapist

Joanne became a massage therapist after a serious car accident left her with daily headaches and a gifted massage therapist helped her eliminate them. The same therapist helped her cope with the stress of her mother’s illness and the subsequent grief when she passed away. These transformational experiences had a powerful impact: the benefit that massage can offer for the body, mind and spirit. Once Joanne decided that she wanted to help other people the way her massage therapist helped her, she enrolled in massage school, left the office space behind, and never looked back.

More than two decades later, she’s still honored to do the work with an ever-deepening interest. Joanne's specialty is myofascial release which addresses the fascial network connecting muscles to the skeleton. Her style blends several modalities of therapeutic, structural massage work with deep relaxation techniques because she believes the most effective deep tissue massage is the one that doesn’t hurt. The result is freer movement of the skeleton, joints, and muscles; improved posture; deeper breathing and a better mood. The relaxation techniques that are incorporated also bring a deep sense of peace and calm.

A student of The Alexander Technique and Aston Patterning, Joanne is always looking for ways to create more efficient movement of the body. Where can we release unnecessary tension to make every task easier and more fluid? How does her movement (or stillness of movement) in a massage session help a client to release stress so that their body can restore, repair and heal itself? These kinds of questions provide a constant exploration in her work as she learns new techniques. She’s also very interested in the dramatic impact that sound frequencies have in healing the body, mind and spirit (i.e., Tuning forks and Tibetan singing bowls). On a larger scale, she’s fascinated by the field of quantum physics where nothing is separate from anything else – that separation is only an illusion - and the potential of that, as a collective paradigm, to truly heal everything.

  • “I have been seeing Rosie at Joy Skin Atelier for years after trying facials at most of the Boston spas and she is just world class. From the customized treatments, the curated products, the beautiful studio, there is no detail she has not exquisitely designed. She always knows what my skin needs and provides the perfect solution”

    Julia Burr

  • The absolute best! I saw Rosie for a facial and was so blown away by my entire experience. I struggle with severe TMJ and facial tension and left completely relieved. My skin was glowing for more than a week afterwards. Her space is stunning and it’s truly an experience to just be in her waiting room. The aesthetic of her spa is uplifting, calming, feminine and impeccable. Her treatment room was extremely comfortable and rejuvenating to be in. I can’t wait to go back

  • Rosie and her team are angels- I had my first facial 6wks after having my first child and now 4 years and another child later I am still there every 4-6wks. Not only is it a blissful and relaxing experience, but their expertise in skin care is amazing. I completely trust every recommendation they make especially as they never try and push you to do treatments or try and sell you anything, but will give you their honest advice if you ask or if you need skincare recommendations. My skin has never looked better and I recommend Joy Skin Atelier to anyone and everyone I can!

  • I went for a spa day with friends and it was heavenly. A delicious breakfast and lunch were served, along with a relaxing facial and massage. I would recommend for anyone who needs a break alone or with friends. The owner Rosie and her employees could not have been friendlier or more professional.
